Bartender's Best: The mood-setting Caipirinha

By: Tracey Broussard

What: Caipirinha (KIA-pee-reen-ya)

Where: Texas de Brazil, Fort Lauderdale

Who: Rubens Lacerda, bartender

Where: Texas de Brazil, 2457 E. Sunrise Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, 954-400-5630, (Also available in Hallandale Beach, Miami Beach and Miami)

Behind the drink: Although the origins of the caipirinha are unclear, it has become the national drink of Brazil. Made with cachaca, a Brazilian spirit created during the first pressing of sugar cane, it was once considered a poor man's drink. In fact, a saying in Brazil translates to, "The worse the cachaca, the better the caipirinha." That's excellent news for those of us who wish to imbibe without breaking the bank.
